by Nicholas Ruiz, Green Party candidate for U.S. Congressional District 24

Some say that the real issue in the human equation is power: who has it, who wants it – and what one is willing to do in order to get and keep it.
Nicholas Ruiz III
And power is but a metaphor for Capital.

So in order for us to discuss independence, let us ask, “Independence from what and from whom?”

Anyone who has in mind the fate of a people, a country, a nation – will more likely than not, spend very little of their time in relentless pursuit of capital, and its analog, power.

Yet, the people are fooled by this every time.

Anita Stewart is running for the Hillsborough County Soil & Water Conservation District.  If elected, Anita will turn soil and water ‘green.’

“My vision is to eventually see Tampa Bay and all of Florida adopting the use of alternative fuels, encouraging community gardens in every neighborhood, and implementing sustainable, green jobs and businesses.  Let’s keep our goods and food local and support each other economically at the same time,” says Anita.

Nicholas Ruiz III, Ph.D. is running for Congress as a member of the Green Party because he sees the political spectrum as much more rich and varied than one or two parties can adequately express.

Headshot of Nicholas Ruiz

He feels that voters in the 2010 elections should vote their conscience, by seeking out other political parties as a matter of principle. They should expect different policies when voting for different candidates from different political parties.  “If you wish for more of the same policies that are running America into the ground – then support, once again, another Republicrat,” says Ruiz, running for U.S. Congress in Florida’s District 24.

“American ideals continue to exist, in spite of our political leadership that continues to fail us. On healthcare, on jobs, on the environment, on education, on our future, and that of our children – we need alternative, progressive leaders in Congress,” says Ruiz.

His platform for progress is:

  • Universal Healthcare System or “Medicare for All”

Every major industrialized nation in the world has a universal healthcare system - when will America?  I will support and/or sponsor legislation for a universal healthcare system.

  • Harness the power of the Financial Market (i.e. Wall Street) for the Public

I will support and/or sponsor legislation for the creation of a Public Trust, that is, a 10% issuance of public shares of all publicly traded companies, and a 10% issuance of all tradable derivatives (e.g. crude oil, gold, etc.) for the financing of public interests (e.g. healthcare, education, social security, etc.).
